We are seeking a senior mass spectrometry scientist who will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and running our mass spectrometry-based proteomic workflows in Analytical Development.  This senior mass spectrometry scientist will play a key role in designing and executing LC-MS methodologies for viral vector-based therapies.  S/he will collaborate with other scientists to implement LC-MS methods for AAV gene therapy product characterization and optimization of AAV platforms.

 

The scientist will:

  • Maintain understanding of current regulatory expectations for host-cell protein of gene-therapy products
  • Develop and/or optimize LC-MS based workflows for host-cell protein identification and trending
  • Collaborate with informatics team to design and implement data analysis strategies for identification and semi-quantitative to quantitative protein measurements
  • Collaborate with Discovery and Process and Technology Development to support pipeline deliverables
  • Utilize automation technologies where appropriate to facilitate robust timely methods
  • Regularly interact with immunoassay team on HCP method development
  • Responsible for timely execution of experiments and interpretation of data
  • Keep accurate, clear, and updated notebooks and records
  • Help to maintain and troubleshoot LC-MS and related equipment
  • Author and review technical reports and SOPs

Education and Experience Requirements

PhD in a relevant scientific discipline such as biological sciences, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry.  Post-doctoral research or 3-5 years relevant biotech or pharmaceutical company experience preferred but not required.  May have a Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline with 3-5 years of related experience within an established biotech or pharmaceutical company.

 

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with developing and using established and emerging MS technologies for proteomics (e.g. IMS-Q-TOF, Orbitrap, etc…) and associated acquisition software applications (e.g., MassHunter, XCalibur, Compass)
  • Hands-on experience with proteomics data processing pipelines (e.g., Mascot, Proteome Discoverer, etc…).
  • Track record of assessing and implementing novel strategies to optimize protein identification and characterization workflows
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of MS applications to complement the hands-on experience
  • Experience with development of investigational products
  • Ability to work independently and assume ownership of experiments to drive results with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills needed in order to design assays and experiments to answer complex analytical challenges
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative manner in a team-based environment
  • May provide guidance to more junior team members
