Primary Duties

 

 

The Research Scientist – Medicinal Chemistry is a member of the Discovery Research Group within the Research Department and will support laboratory research activities towards the development and testing of non-viral gene therapy products.

 

He/she will be responsible for:

 

  • Developing and executing synthetic strategies towards different modalities, such as lipidoids, small-molecule drug conjugates
  • Implementing different analytical methods, including but not limited to, chromatography, mass spectrometry, NMR, to support the development of non-viral gene delivery platforms
  • Work with the vendor, when necessary, to maintain and repair spectrometers
  • Initiating and managing collaborations with external parties
  • Collaborating with other Translational Research Scientists to design in vitro and in vivo experiments to optimize development candidates
  • Writing study reports, documents to support regulatory filings, manuscripts, and present results at appropriate scientific meetings.

Develop chemical synthesis and analytical strategies to improve non-viral gene delivery platforms. Prepare and perform experiments on the bench to support Discovery Research Group projects. Engage in extensive literature review

Managing collaborations with external parties, including CROs and academic labs

Design experiments, organize, discuss, and record experimental data.

 

10%

Generate technical reports, prepare presentation slides, generate novel concepts.

Trainings, lab meetings, and administration work

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements

 

  • Typically has a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Engineering, or related scientific disciplines with three years of experience in a research-based setting. Familiarity with nanomedicine is a plus
  • Extensive experience with routine and advanced analytical methods (e.g. LCMS, NMR) to characterize synthetic medicinal compounds (small molecule) for structure and purity determination
  • Strong track record of achievement in the synthesis of complex molecules and/or synthetic methodology development
  • Good understanding of structure-activity relationships and ADME data
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
  • Responsible and detail-oriented working practice is needed.
  • Ability to prioritize workstream to meet complex deadlines for multiple simultaneous projects.

 

 

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Familiarity with different analytical techniques, including but not limited to chromatography, mass spectrometry, and NMR
  • Deep knowledge of modern synthetic chemistry methods
  • Experience with collaboratively designing novel biologically active small molecules
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities
  • Proven ability to work independently in hands-on laboratory settings, self-motivated to learn and develop new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Familiar with computer software commonly used in bio/pharma industries.
  • Works with colleagues as a team player.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong publication record is a plus.
  • Experience managing external collaborations is a plus.
