Reporting to the Head of Global P&R, the P&R Lead will help execute the overall goals of Spark’s Pricing & Reimbursement (P&R) team—to successfully shape the pricing, reimbursement, and policy environment for gene therapies and ensure rapid patient access for Spark’s gene therapies at a desired, responsible price.  As a key member of the P&R team, the P&R Strategy Lead will be an internal cross-functional resource to support the Research & Development and Commercial teams, as well as a representative of Spark to external stakeholders, including industry groups and relationships with Roche and Genentech.


Corporate objectives will be achieved by delivering results through internal objectives as outlined by various brand teams and external policy objectives related to US Federal and state policy and EU policy objectives pre-determined to advance Spark’s interests.  The position will be responsible for monitoring, managing, and engaging on all relevant internal and external product and policy initiatives to ensure development of and patient access to gene therapies.  An ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is essential.    







  • Help create a global P&R strategy for all of Spark’s products including the value proposition and recommended price point for products in development.
  • Determine coverage, coding, and reimbursement strategies for US regulatory (i.e., the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) and global health technology agencies such as the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
  • Assist Commercial, Finance, and other internal teams as needed to operationalize P&R strategies and support implementation.
  • Oversee the creation of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) modeling and publications to support a responsible and desired price for Spark’s therapies, including P&R-related messaging.
  • Oversee payer research to obtain and maintain payer insights related to gene therapies and novel payment mechanisms and outcomes-based agreements.
  • Determine market access strategies by garnering cross-functional support for public and private payer negotiations, and potential outcomes-based arrangements. 
  • Actively participate on brand strategy teams, trial design discussions, launch sequencing recommendations, evidence generation, distribution and outcomes-based agreement strategies, and creation of value messaging.
  • Partner with various internal teams such as Business and Commercial Development to evaluate potential business deals and new products as needed.
  • Assist with issue identification and presentations to Spark’s Executive Price, Reimbursement, and Access Committee.




  • Help develop and support ideal public policy positions for Spark’s portfolio by working with internal teams including Government Affairs, Commercial, Patient Advocacy, and Legal and other industry groups coalitions include the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine (ARM), the Institute for Gene Therapy (IGT), the National Pharmaceutical Council, EUCOPE, and EU ARM, among others.
  • Effectively manage and supervise external consultants for various P&R projects as needed to advance Spark’s internal and external efforts. 
  • Establish and maintain engagement with influential third parties including trade associations, other external coalitions, advocacy groups, and thought leaders.




  • BS or BA required; PhD, MPH, MSc, PharmD, JD or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Generally 10 to 12 years of relevant experience in pricing and/or reimbursement, public health policy, advocacy, or industry experience with a proven track record of leadership across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Advanced understanding of pricing, reimbursement, and market access issues in the US, and ideally globally.
  • Demonstrated ability to impact decision making within payers, policy makers, and health technology assessment (HTA) agencies.




  • Knowledge and understanding of issues impacting the biotechnology industry, including public payers (mostly Medicare and Medicaid in the US) and private health insurance.  Global knowledge is a plus, particularly knowledge of obtaining reimbursement and patient access in the EU5 countries.
  • Strong understanding of public and private payer initiatives impacting coverage, coding, and reimbursement of biotechnology products.
  • Meaningful prior exposure to the pharmaceutical or biotech industry including pricing, distribution, and payment practices within the industry. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as a self-motivator as well as in a matrix/cross-functional organization.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple, high priority projects with a keen attention to detail and execution of high-quality work products.
  • High integrity and professional demeanor; team player; ability to interface productively with both internal cross-functional teams and external parties.
  • Requires strong interpersonal, communication and networking skills including the ability to present to both small and large-sized audiences. 
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
