Primary Duties

As a member of Immunology Team in the Research Department,  the Pre-clinical Immunology Lead directs a group of Scientists and is responsible for strategic planning, timely execution, and reporting of pre-clinical immunology studies in the context of liver, ocular and CNS gene therapy; drives exploratory research and proposes PoC studies for novel treatments, as well as the immunomodulation for existing gene therapies to increase safety and efficacy of treatment; directs external scientific collaborations with academic partners and/or CROs; keeps abreast of scientific and technological innovations; develops novel immune assays in support of the Spark pipeline; responsible for ensuring that all studies are compliant to relevant SOP guidelines and aligned with regulatory agency expectations and internal Spark’s policies.

Job Function and Description



Assume responsibility for strategic planning, execution, and reporting of pre-clinical immunology studies performed by a group of scientists.



Oversee academic collaborations and CRO management for outsourced preclinical activities.



Develop novel immune assays in support of the Spark pipeline



Keep abreast of new scientific/technology development by participating in scientific meetings/seminars and through regular scientific review.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Immunology or related field required and at least 6 years of relevant post degree experience
  • Previous experience as a team leader is preferred
  • A strong background in pre-clinical immunology and AAV gene therapy is preffered


Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • A strong background in preclinical immunology, gene therapy development and cutting edge biotechnologies.
  • Familiarity with IND enabling studies
  • Extensive experience with in vivo study design, immune and safety assessments (rodents, NHP)
  • Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • A strong publication record
  • Experience in managing team
