The Medical Communications Specialist reports into the Head of Medical Communications-Global Medical Affairs, is an integral member of the Medical Communications team and is responsible for managing scientific communication and publication projects in collaboration with various Medical and R&D stake-holders. The Medical Communications Specialist is also responsible for the management of publication agencies/vendors for the creation, revision, review and approval of medical content to support Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and other medical stake-holders



  • Lead the appropriate review and approval of all Spark publications/projects, including abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts from Spark-sponsored clinical trials and other Spark-sponsored research
    • Ensure all assigned Spark-sponsored publications are developed according to Spark publication policy and good publication practice, including published guidelines (e.g., GPP3, ICMJE, CONSORT).
    • Ensure that all developed materials are reviewed and appropriately signed off according to Spark Policies and SOPs and maintain archive of approved materials within the appropriate management system
    • Establish strong working relationships with authors and other external experts
    • Coordinate publication reviews and integration of reviewer comments of assigned publication projects.
    • Ensure external-facing scientific slide decks/ther materials for presentation or for use by Field Medical Affairs go through the Spark medical-legal content approval process
  • In collaboration with the Head of Medical Communications/Medical Communications Lead, lead Global Medical Communications tactical activities at key medical congresses, including
    •  The development, review and approval of medical and/or therapeutic area congress assets such as symposia and booth materials
    • The creation of post-congress/medical meeting summaries for dissemination to internal audiences


  • Collaborate with Head of Medical Communications/Medical Communications Lead for the implementation of a comprehensive Medical Communication Strategy, which includes publications, congress and educational materials plans
  • Support development of scientific communications plans and oversee execution of tactics both internally and externally
  • Assist Medical Communications Lead(s) in the management of all financial and contractual aspects of assigned projects, including external vendors.


  • Build effective partnerships with all internal stakeholders, including members of the Medical Affairs, clinical development, regulatory affairs, and commercial/commercial development teams
  • Advanced degree required. Doctorate level preferred (PhD, PharmD, MD).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pharmaceutical medical communications / publications, or at a medical communications agency in a medical manager/associate director role.
  • Experience within the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Experience in strategic publication planning and execution of publication plans is preferred.
  • Experience with project management preferred
