Primary Duties

 

The Lead Network Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing implementation of in-house network, voice, data, and wireless architectures that support core organizational functions and assure their high availability.  This individual will partner closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to gain organizational commitment for all network and telecom plans, as well as evaluate and select all technologies required to complete those plans.   In addition, the Senior Network Architect provides technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level. The Senior Network Architect will oversee the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links performed by the managed service and telecom providers. This individual will also ensure the analyzing and resolution of network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training where required.

 

In addition, the Lead Network Architect acts as Level 3 escalation for issues related to the various network systems.  The role will be responsible for assisting with the development of work plans, schedules, and for staying current on rapidly changing technologies.

 

Responsibilities

 

Develop processes, procedures and standards for the operation of effective data networks, specific to LAN/WAN, mobility and third-party network management. Maintain long-term strategic goals for managing and maintaining networks and telecom services ensuring that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

 

Design and maintain network management architecture for specific network and telecom components including event monitoring and alerting. Maintain a sufficient level of expertise with the organization’s network, voice, and wireless systems, to be the internal subject matter expert (SME) and continually update knowledge of the rapidly changing technology market by engaging external experts when needed.

 

Design, plan, and oversee implementation of company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, WAPs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.

 

Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services. Conduct research and analysis to identify and recommend cost optimization, process improvement, and performance improvement opportunities.

 

Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures for network administration, voice, and wireless usage, and disaster recovery.

 

Participate in managing all network security solutions. Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.

 

Confer with end-users, clients, or senior management to define business requirements for complex systems and infrastructure development. Provide guidance to junior members of the team.

 

Assist in monitoring the execution of carrier service level agreements for all Spark’s network service contracts. Work closely and manage relationships with IT Leads, consultants, and external vendors on the design, implementation, development, and support of network, voice, and wireless systems.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a computer science or technical discipline, or certified equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 7 years advanced experience in a complex network environment.

 

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

 

Technical and Functional Skills

  • Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
  • Proven experience with network architecture and capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of telephony and contact center systems, including Zoom Phones.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including.
  • Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco and Fortinet platforms

 

 

Spark takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, and external market and internal value when determining a salary for potential new employees.  The base salary range for this position is currently from $107,500 to $161,300.
