Summary

 

 

The Lead Finance Business Partner, Business Development and Analytics will be responsible for providing overall finance support to the Business Development, Finance and Strategy departments. The Position will be an effective business partner and trusted financial advisor to the Head of Business Development, Head of Finance and Head of Strategy and accompanying team members.

The position holder will also provide finance expertise, guidance and analysis into strategic and operational business decisions aimed at executing on the goals and priorities of the group/organization. This position will be responsible to gather critical data points and execute financial modeling in support of business development opportunities, manage the long-range financial planning exercise and generate analytics that will contribute to achieving the company’s strategic objectives.

The position holder may also be involved in ad hoc projects that support driving the functions and organization towards optimal efficiency and effectiveness.

The positions will report to the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and will collaborate with a team of professionals (direct reports and contractors) across the Finance function.  

 

Key duties will include:

  • Act as the primary strategic and operational finance partner on cross-functional teams in the assessment of business development opportunities, including the development of financial models, discounted cash flows/NPVs, benchmarking and asset valuations, etc.  
  • Partner with Strategy on the development of the Long Range/Strategic Plan and lead the creation of the financials for Spark Therapeutics
  • Support cross-functional leaders, including the Head of Strategy, Asset General Managers (AGMs) and Portfolio Management, with deep data driven analysis which is intended to support operational and strategic decisions and drive business performance (e.g. business reporting, trend analysis, investment cases, pricing analysis).
  • Understand and seek out business drivers and key operational issues; actively identify strategic and tactical opportunities and deliver insightful analyses to Head of FP&A and Head of Finance to support decision-making
  • Deliver timely, complete and accurate financial analysis that communicates progress toward attainment of financial plans & goals, as well as plans to identify trends in expense, capital expenditures, and other related areas  
  • Identify, design and implement leading practice business and finance analytics capabilities for Spark Therapeutics
  • Act as a leader in the Finance function

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Be a critical and strategic trusted advisor to Finance, Business Development and Strategy to understand, contribute to and enable the organization’s strategic goals and operational objectives. This includes but is not limited to development of analysis methodologies to drive strategic and tactical decisions; and creation of new tools/solutions for program teams and functional leaders to support key strategic and program investment decisions.

  • Manage the financial portion of Long Range Planning exercise, including:
    • Execute the process
    • Analyze and challenge key assumptions
    • Create summary presentations

 

  • Additionally, the position will develop new approaches, processes and analytics to address business needs that arise during these processes.

 

  • Contribute to the financial accounting/review process:
    • Develop and improve processes for collection and review of financial results
    • Develop innovative financial reporting and analysis capabilities

 

Education and Experience Requirements

•            Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

•            CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred

•            Minimum 10 years of relevant financial experience; preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry

•            Extensive Experience in developing financial models – discounted cash flows/NPV's, monte carlo/risk-based analysis ect. required

•            Extensive Experience with Business Development deals is preferred

•            Working knowledge of budget preparation, consolidation and financial reporting
