Laboratory Systems Technician will have the responsibility for day-to-day laboratory support activities occurring at the Spark research facility.  These laboratory support functions will facilitate the scientific process and include safe operations and efficiency development for cross-functional activities supporting Translational Research, Tech Dev, Pre-Clinical Operations and Process Development.


This role requires a strong collaborative effort with scientific staff, facilities personnel and inventory management activities/personnel necessitating the possession of strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.


Accountability overview:

  • Maintain general lab orderliness and perform regular equipment and work space cleaning
  • Collect, place and monitor supply and reagent orders
  • Maintain a current work instruction document chronicling all Lab System Tech duties
  • Regular equipment maintenance: UV lamp replacement, water bath cleaning, incubator decontaminations
  • Provide lab services such as: glass washer operation, autoclaving activities, maintenance of sharps containers, removal of biological wastes, solution prep
  • Assist scientific staff with labeling activities and locating reagents and consumables
  • Monitor operating processes for opportunities to increase efficiencies
  • Use aseptic techniques to aliquot bulk reagents for storage, monitor levels and maintain stock
  • Elevate laboratory operating issues through appropriate channels
  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe working environment and operate in a safe manner
  • Successful candidate will also be cross-trained to back up inventory and facilities personnel.

Laboratory support: Operate glass washer, operate autoclave, prepare media, buffers and reagents; monitor media, buffer and reagent inventories

Laboratory maintenance & cleaning: Perform regular maintenance on specified equipment; remove of biological waste, waste vacuum canisters and sharps containers from lab spaces; clean laboratory work spaces and equipment on a regular basis

Scientist support: Labeling tubes, locating reagents or samples, aliquoting bulk reagents for storage

Supply and reagent ordering and stocking; monitor consumable inventory process

Act as backup to inventory and/or facilities personnel


Associates degree required, BA or BS degree preferred: science background/education and/or laboratory experience and applicable work experience handling biological samples preferred
