Primary Duties

 

 

Reporting to the Associate Director - IT Support & Operations, the IT Lab Operations Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring smooth and efficient laboratory operations with Spark. This position focuses on lab instrument connectivity, onboarding and offboarding lab instruments, data and software management, as well as collaborating with vendors. The specialist will work closely with lab personnel, data engineers, business departments, and IT teams to streamline processes and optimize the lab's efficiency and productivity.

 

Responsibilities

 

Instrument Connectivity Management

  • Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain the connectivity of various lab instruments, ensuring seamless data flow between instruments and data systems.
  • Collaborate with lab personnel, vendors, and IT teams to implement and integrate instrument-specific software and protocols.

 

Inventory Management

  • Maintain up-to-date inventory of lab instruments and related hardware, ensuring accuracy in the asset management system.

 

Data Management

  • Work closely with data engineers and IT teams to ensure the efficient and secure handling of data generated by lab instruments.
  • Implement data backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and high availability.

 

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to lab personnel regarding instrument connectivity, software, and other related issues.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to address network-related challenges affecting lab instruments.

 

Software Management

  • Monitor and manage software licenses for lab-specific applications and tools, ensuring compliance with vendor agreements and optimizing license utilization.
  • Coordinate software updates, patches, and license renewals to maintain optimal functionality and security.

 

Vendor Relationship Manager

  • Collaborate with vendors to address technical issues, claims, and service requests promptly and efficiently.

 

Process Improvement

  • Suggest and implement improvements to enhance instrument connectivity, software management, and vendor interactions.

         

Education and Experience Requirements

 

 

  • 3-7 years’ experience of IT support in pharmaceutical, healthcare or related industry
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field or IT-related discipline.
  • Understanding of both Windows PowerShell and Linux shell scripting.
  • Proven experience in laboratory operations, instrument connectivity, or related roles.
  • Familiarity with scientific instruments, software, and protocols commonly used lab settings.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to handle technical challenges independently.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and inventory.
  • Experience in data management and working with data engineers or IT teams is a plus.

 

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

 

 

  • Extensive application support experience with Active Directory, virtual desktops, Microsoft 365, Intune, Azure, Service Desk Ticketing System, and VPN.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer hardware, including printers.
  • Experience with desktop and server operating systems, including Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11, Windows Server 2008, 2008, 2012, and 2019.  Apple products a plus.
  • Familiarity with the advanced principles of ITIL, Project Management experience a plus.
  • Occasional travel to / from remote sites.

 

 

Spark takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, and external market and internal value when determining a salary for potential new employees.  The base salary range for this position is currently from $105,800 to $158,800.
