The R&D Finance Business Partner will report to the Lead R&D Finance Business Partner (“Lead”). The R&D Finance Business Partner will partner with individuals within the Research and Development business units to provide strategic financial support aimed at executing on the goals and priorities of the group/organization.  In conjunction with the Lead, this position will be responsible gathering critical data points that will allow for effective planning, reporting, and financial analyses. The R&D Finance Business Partner will be involved in ad hoc projects that support driving the organization towards optimal efficiency and effectiveness.

Key duties will include:

  • Partnering with individuals at various levels within the R&D organization to complete forecast and budget deliverables.
  • Assist with development of new approaches to address business needs, including management reporting, software development, and integration with the parent organization (Roche).
  • In conjunction with the Lead, be a point of contact and responsible party to all financial statement inquiries, including capital expenditures.
  • Assist in financial modeling, if needed.
  • Provide inputs to the consolidation of the corporate results.
  • In collaboration with the Lead, train and educate business leaders on the financial aspects of their business, such as reading their P&L, interpreting financial and operational metrics, and explaining how their activities impact the finance organization.  
  • Collaborate with other finance members and steward consistency and standardization efforts across FP&A.






70%  Assist the Lead with the financial portion of key company processes. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Assisting with development, oversight and preparation of LRP and Budgets/Forecasts
  • Analyzing and challenging key assumptions
  • Creating summary presentations
  • Identifying and explaining material budget vs. actual variances

Assessing the impact of variances on financial forecasts



Collaborate with other members of finance and key R&D stakeholders in order to steward consistency and standardization. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Developing analysis methodologies to drive strategic and tactical decisions
  • Educating key R&D stakeholders on how their activities impact finance

Being a part of ad hoc projects that help drive Spark to the next level (i.e. creation/selection of new tools or solutions, process optimization, etc.)





  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant financial experience; preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Working knowledge of system tools for budget preparation, consolidation and financial reporting
  • Extensive experience supporting research and development, specifically in a biopharmaceutical environment preferred

  • Proven ability and desire to work effectively and deliver accurate results under tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills; must be able to confidently and effectively communicate finance and accounting concepts to those who are unfamiliar with financial terms.
  • Track record of partnering productively with accounting function to support monthly & quarterly close activities
  • Experience in people management
