Primary Duties
The Finance Business Partner, Development & Product Strategy (Dev & PS) will providing finance support to the Development & Product Strategy functions. Reporting to the Lead Finance Business Partner, R&D (“Lead”) the position be an effective business partner and trusted advisor to the Development and Product Strategy functional/departmental owners.
The position holder will provide finance expertise and guidance into strategic and operational business decisions aimed at executing on the goals and priorities of the group/organization. This position will be responsible to gather critical data points that will allow for effective planning, reporting, and financial analyses. The Dev & PS Finance Business Partner may also be involved in ad hoc projects that support driving the organization towards optimal efficiency and effectiveness.
The position holder may also supervise a team of professionals (direct reports and contractors).
Key duties will include:
- In collaboration with the Lead, be a point of contact and responsible party for all financial aspects of their business and provide operational and strategic finance support to the functional and departmental leaders within Development & Product Strategy
- Lead all operational finance activities including, but not limited to, the review/approval of purchase orders, review of contracts, headcount tracking and development of monthly accruals and journal entries.
- In collaboration with the Lead, support and influence management by delivering timely, accurate and insightful financial reporting and interpretative analysis that highlights progress towards attainment of financial goals and identifies key business drivers and operational issues;
- Partner with individuals at various levels of the organization to lead the financial planning processes including the annual budget and latest estimate exercises, headcount planning, compensation and benefits, functional OPEX and overhead for inclusion in the consolidated enterprise financials.
- Proactively seek to enhance ways of working and partnering with the business, including participation on cross-functional commercial and clinical asset teams
- Provide data driven, complete and accurate inputs to the creation of financial models used to analyze and influence operational and strategic decisions (strategic planning, long range financial planning, business development opportunities).
- Identify, design and implement new strategic and tactical approaches to address business needs, including but not limited to, management reporting, software development, and integration with the parent organization (Roche).
- Collaborate with other finance members and steward consistency and standardization efforts across FP&A. of high performing finance professionals
- Contribute to the Spark Finance function
Responsibilities
- Be a critical and strategic trusted advisor to functional/departmental leadership teams to understand, contribute to and enable the function’s strategic goals and operational objectives. This includes but is not limited to development of analysis methodologies to drive strategic and tactical decisions; and creation of innovative solutions for program teams and functional leaders to support key strategic and program investment decisions.
- Facilitate the financial portion of key company processes i.e. Long Range Planning, Annual Budget and Latest Estimates:
- Develop and oversee the process
- Analyze and challenge key assumptions
- Create summary presentations
- Additionally, the position will develop new approaches, processes and analytics to address business needs that arise during these processes.
- Manage monthly financial accounting/review process:
- Identify and explain material budget vs actual variances
- Assess the impact of variances on the financial forecast
- Develop and improve processes for collection and review of financial results
- Responsible for consolidation of functional results.

- Lead ad hoc projects addressing business needs, and play integral part to the ongoing development of reporting software for effective and efficient management/corporate reporting
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance
- CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
- Minimum 8+ years of relevant financial experience; preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry
- Working knowledge of automated tools/technology for budget preparation, consolidation and financial reporting
- Extensive experience supporting research and development, specifically in a biopharmaceutical environment preferred
- Manage the team to achieve business goals and objectives.
