The Corporate Planning Lead and CMT Chief of Staff will be responsible for a broad range of activities in support of the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Corporate Management Team (CMT) (direct reports to the CEO). 

The incumbent will drive integrated planning, continued process improvement and operational excellence to meet our growth objectives, including establishing and maintaining the corporate planning process, facilitating information exchange between Strategy, Finance, Program & Alliance Mgmt and other key partners, supporting the CEO and CMT on meeting preparations (agendas, materials, preparing guests, maintaining a team SharePoint site, anticipating agenda items aligned to corporate priorities and the planning process, tracking actions and follow-up).  This role will serve as the “steward” of Spark’s Operating Model, driving initiatives to enhance effectiveness.  Additionally, this role will be assigned to “special projects” as needed based on corporate priorities.  

Working as the “right hand” to Chief Strategy Officer, this role is first and foremost a facilitator and connector that requires highly developed cross-functional collaboration skills, a focus on execution, and a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role.  This position requires a leader who is an expert communicator, accountable project manager and successful relationship builder across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

CMT Chief of Staff

  • Planning agendas, capturing actions and follow-ups, prepping presenters, maintaining SharePoint site, working with key stakeholders across the business to anticipate agenda items

Corporate Planning

  • Works cross-functionally to establish the corporate planning process
  • Collaborates across Chief Strategy Officer functions (Finance, Strategy, Program & Alliance Mgmt) to coordinate tasks and plans
  • Leads the goal setting process (setting goals and KPIs, tracking performance, end of year assessment, communication of progress to other stakeholders)
  • Partners with HR and Corp Comms on key messages for AEMs and SLTs

Spark Op Model stewardship

  • Partners with existing and future governance bodies to define scope, decision rights, coordination with each other
  • Champions and optimizes decision effectiveness and meeting effectiveness, in collaboration with Talent Development and Program Management
  • Maintains overall ownership of Op Model SharePoint site and tools, working with other SMEs as needed
  • Identifies and may execute future Op Model initiatives to optimize the company’s ability to scale 

Other special projects as needed

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required, Master’s degree or higher preferred
  • Generally, has 15+ years of experience in life sciences
  • Strong general project management skills (scoping work, defining deliverables, identifying resource needs, anticipating constraints and risks, managing timelines, tracking progress, communicating with stakeholders)
  • Demonstrated ability to create structure and process where none previously existed; using influence to build buy-in
  • Working knowledge of matrix operating models preferred

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive key initiatives from concept to execution in partnership with senior executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive leadership on complex business topics where a high level of uncertainty and ambiguity exist
  • Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and across all functions; open, honest and inclusive communication style that establishes trusting relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and manage business planning processes and synthesize a variety of complex inputs into a comprehensive plan
  • Well-developed project management skills with a track record of managing and delivering complex projects on time and on budget in a fast-paced environment
  • Mastery level knowledge of MS PowerPoint and how to use this tool to facilitate information exchange, alignment and decision making
  • Demonstrated role model of the Spark Values
