The Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and updating Spark’s EHS programs, policies, and any required training programs to achieve and maintain compliance.  S/he will be responsible for monitoring site activities and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements at all Spark sites and locations globally (current and future sites). 

 

This individual will ensure EHS compliance across multiple functions, and will work closely with Manufacturing, QC and Microbiology Labs, Manufacturing Science and Technology Lab, Quality Assurance, Project Management, Facilities and Technical Operations to identify regulated activities, assess and manage risk as well as ensure compliance. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide EHS support to Spark Therapeutics
  • Facilitate the site based EHS Committee
  • Facilitate safety processes e.g. Hazard Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures, Training, Contractor Safety Requirements, Change Management, Incident Investigations
  • Perform and monitor safety inspection/audit process, ensuring inspections are completed and properly documented.
  • Provide routine inspections of safe work management systems to ensure compliance.
  • Track safety action items to ensure timely completion and that priority safety items remain on track for completion.
  • Manage safety and environmental reporting and data for site.
  • Provide guidance to plant personnel on occupational safety and health and environmental compliance issues as appropriate.
  • Assist with site-specific industrial hygiene monitoring program.
  • Manages Hazardous and Biohazardous wastes to ensure compliance,  coordinates vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Experienced EHS Professional with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience.
  • BS degree required
  • Experience in pharmaceutical /Biotechnology GMP environment preferred.
  • Applicable EHS certification preferred (ASP/CSP, CHMM, CIH)
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Training (Haz WOPER) desired
  • Experience in safety incident classification, investigation methodologies, and root cause analysis.
  • Able to develop and conduct training for a variety of levels
  • Experience with risk concepts, including classification from consequences and frequency estimates, risk-based decision making and cost benefit analysis.

 

Competencies

  • Must be physically able to stand for periods of time. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and perform other physical duties as required.
  • Must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have visual acuity.
