The Cost Accounting Lead is responsible for partnering with IT, Technology, Manufacturing, and R&D in order to maintain and improve upon the existing cost accounting function in support of manufacturing operations and supply chain management. Responsibilities include adherence to the monthly and quarterly close process and time line, oversight of all entries to the general ledger and account reconciliation and analysis related to inventory and cost of goods sold accounts in order to ensure the continued integrity and accuracy of these accounts on the Company’s financial results and balance sheet. 

Key duties will include:

  • Maintain standard cost system to ensure accuracy of inventory valuation 
  • Monitor inventory transactions and processes including scrap, inventory, and COGS to ensure accuracy
  • Identify potential issues and coordinate issue resolution/problem solving with other functional teams
  • Drive the development of procedures and controls that ensure meaningful and reliable product costs and accurate inventories
  • Involved, as time permits, in FP&A and general ledger support as well as special projects
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing
  • Identify and recommend cost effective solutions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to assist with process and technology improvements
  • Resolve Microsoft Dynamics NAV (ERP) transactional, order, and setup issues that adversely impact the financial statements
  • Work with operations on user and procedural issues impacting the fair representation of inventory, purchasing, actual expense postings, etc.
  • Analyze and challenge key assumptions
  • Prepare cost forecasts
  • Prepare journal entries for month-end and year-end closing
  • Identify and explain material budget vs. actual variances and assess the impact of variances on financial forecasts
  • Create summary presentations


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with a depth of skills in accounting (both financial and managerial), reporting, analysis, financial supply chain, processes and procedures
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant financial/accounting experience; preferably within manufacturing in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV or equivalent ERP system 
  • Extensive experience leading a cost accounting function

  • Track record of partnering productively with accounting function to support monthly & quarterly close activities.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and related tools
